Cordoba – Donoso – Woiz trio @ Koffiefabriek (Antwerp)
November 18 @ 21:00 – 23:00
Created in Brussels in 2022, this trio is dedicated to recovering, preserving and promoting the music of composers and performers who were fundamental in the creation of avant-garde tango.
At first glance, when talking about modern tango, we hear only one reference: the well-known and renowned Astor Piazzolla. But going deeper, we find composers, arrangers, and musicians of great importance in the development of this genre, for example the maestro Horacio Salgán, Leopoldo Federico, Roberto Grela, Ubaldo De lio, etc.
Their innovations achieved a creative fusion between the popular roots of tango, jazz and classical music in a daring synthesis that left its own mark on the Buenos Aires avant-garde of the 1950s.
This is the breaking point and starting point for the new generation, which contributed to the development of a contemporary style of the tango genre, often referred to as “La nueva música de Buenos Aires” or “Tango Moderno”.
The aim of this new project also called “Ensemble 22” is to delve into the specific period when the first changes began to take place, i.e. the late 1940s and early 1950s.
Analysing and recovering repertoires by H. Salgan, and formations where the guitar was reconsidered as a tango instrument (an instrument forgotten since the 1920s).
The incorporation of the guitar reintroduces a new sonority and a clear connection with jazz music, but always maintaining the roots of tango and its clear familiarity with classical music and its influences.
