Camilo Cordoba rojo @Tine De Wilde

Originally from Buenos Aires, born in 1982, and currently residing in Brussels since 2016.

Commencing his musical career around the year 2000, this artist has delved into the realm of live performances. His primary emphasis has been on diverse tango bands, covering traditional, contemporary, and fusion genres. Furthermore, he has contributed his musical skills to Latin American ensembles and bands across a variety of genres over the course of his career.

Among his most renowned projects are the famous Violentango (Arg), Sonico (Be), Quinteto Ensueños (Fr), Ensemble 22 (Be). Projects with which he has performed in the most important festivals and venues throughout Europe, North America, Hong Kong and Latin America.

He has received recognition from the Ministry of Culture (AR), declared “Of Cultural and Artistic Interest” for his quintet (2012); the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism granted him the status of “Ambassador of Cultural Heritage” (Violentango: part of Argentina’s national identity, 2013).


Trajectory & Projects:

Starting in 2004, he has engaged in numerous international tours with the group Violentango across South America, Central America, North America, Europe, and Asia. His participation includes involvement in festivals such as Glastonbury Festival (UK), Vive Latino (BR), Canarias Jazz (ES), Virada Cultural (BR), Jazz al Parque (CO), Festival de jazz de Savassi (BR), Festival de théâtre international FIT (BR), Paraty Latino (BR), Festival América do Sul (BR), FIA (CR), among others.

In 2016, Camilo Córdoba received an invitation from the Arenberg-Schouwburg Theatre in Antwerp to showcase the “Camilo Córdoba Ensemble” in a distinctive concert. This collaborative event featured the Belgian string quartet Akthamar Quartet and received support from the Argentinean Embassy in BENELUX. The repertoire consisted entirely of original arrangements by Camilo Córdoba himself, as well as his own compositions tailored for a string quartet and various other instruments.

From 2018 to 2022 he was part of the Belgian group Sonico: a quintet dedicated to the recovery, preservation and promotion of the music of Eduardo Rovira, a fundamental composer in the creation of avant-garde tango. With this project he has participated in several festivals, including the Klara Festival – Bozar, Pietrasanta in Concerto (IT),Tango in Tarbes (FR), CC Belgica, MS Scene Nationale (FR),CC De Grote Post Ostende, Brosella Festival, ProPulse, 30CC Leuven, Great Amber Hall (LT), Casa de la Música (EC), Teatro Mayor (CO), among others.

In 2020 Camilo Córdoba participated as a musician in the choreographic piece The Heart is the Muscle by choreographer Lisi Estaras (Les Ballets C de la B) presented at De Grote Post (Oostende). For this project, residencies were granted to: Tanzhaus Zurich (CH), Operaestate, Bassano de Grappa (IT), MA avec GRANIT, Scènes Nationale de Belfort et Montbéliard (FR), BAMP (BE).

In 2022, he establishes Ensemble 22, a dynamically versatile ensemble advocating for a more open and advanced style of tango. With this project, he has already performed in significant venues such as CC Rixensart, UFMG Conservatory (BR), and upcoming events at the Auditorium Musée de la Boverie in Liege and La Locura Festival in Innsbruck. The Ensemble has received support from Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles for its first international tour in Brazil in 2023.

In October 2023, he has been invited as a soloist to the Gavito Tango Festival – Los Angeles (US), joining an excellent team of genre maestros including Horacio Romo and Pablo Agri, both nominated for the Latin Grammys in ’23.

Other Activities:

Since december 2016 Camilo Córdoba collaborates with the Centre for Fine Arts of Brussels ( BOZAR ) as an external Advisor for Latin-American Music. Lately he has curated the 100 years of Tangotheme, a serie of contemporary tango concerts.

Between year 2009-2013 he had collaborated with the “TangoContempo” collective, integrated by some of the referents of tango music nowadays: Esteban Falabella, Diego Schissi, Nicolás Gershberg, Sebastián Prusack, Juan Pablo Navarro, Emiliano Greco, Daniel Ruggiero. And with some special guests as Nestor Marconi, Julio Pane, Pablo Agri, Carlos Corrales, Ignacio Varchausky, Nicolás Ledesma, Cristian Zárate, among others.

Composer & arranger:

He has composed & arrenged many pieces for “Violentango” since year 2004.

He has writen arregments for all his groups, and also for string quartet, tango quintet + string quartet, string + diferrent ensembles.

By the year 2016 he received the support from the Ministry for Foreing Affairs of Argentina for the presentation of his own project “Camilo Córdoba Ensamble” at the Arenbergschouwburg of Antwerpen. This latin-american music ensamble has performed Camilo Córdoba’s music and some original arrengments of argentinian tango and folk music, aswell as some brasilian pieces.

For this project he had great musicians on the line up, such as Mintcho Garrammone (cavaquinho, Bahiana guitar) , Lucas Turquie (guitar), Constanza Guzman (voice), Ezequiel Beraja (percusions), and the “Akthamar string quartet” from Belgium.

Camilo has wrote many arrengments for adding the guitar into tango orchestras, or to adapt the orchestra arregment into smaller formations.
